Behind the Scenes: A Day in the Life of a Floral Designer
Written by Exceptional Flowers of Deerfield
Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes before a beautiful flower arrangement reaches your doorstep? Being a floral designer is more than putting flowers in a vase. It’s about creativity, attention to detail, and turning fresh blooms into something meaningful.
Starting With Fresh Flowers
A floral designer’s day often starts with selecting and preparing flowers. Each stem is checked for freshness, color, texture, and quality. Flowers are trimmed, hydrated, and carefully prepared so they are ready to shine.
Bringing the Design to Life
This is where the creativity really begins. Designers choose flowers and greenery that work together while thinking about color, shape, size, and the feeling the arrangement should create.
Sometimes the design comes together quickly. Other times, it takes a little experimenting to get every detail just right.
The Little Details Matter
From the angle of each stem to the final ribbon or finishing touch, small details can make a big difference. Floral designers want every arrangement to look beautiful from every angle and arrive looking its best.
More Than Just Flowers
Every arrangement has a purpose. A birthday bouquet should feel joyful. Sympathy flowers should feel thoughtful and comforting. An anniversary arrangement should feel romantic and special.
That’s what makes floral design so rewarding. It’s not just about flowers. It’s about helping people express something they may not always know how to say.
